TECO Energy Recommendation

In our experience, like safety, personal preparedness is each individual's responsibility. This message can become part of the fabric of everyday business by building a culture of preparedness. Employees that are prepared will most likely be safe and able to return to work sooner during an emergency event thereby ensuring business continuity.
We at TECO Energy, Inc. highly recommend having a solid Get Ready program at business locations. This type of program should be communicated frequently to employees and made fun to maintain employee engagement during non-emergency times.
During the 2004 and 2005 storms our Get Ready program translated to a prepared workforce and an effective response.
Publix Super Markets
While some business disruptions are predictable, most are not. At Publix, we have established a plan to help us make decisions more effectively and act quickly in emergency situations. Preparation is an essential action that we take to protect our customers, our associates, and our company.
With 142,000 associates, communication is key to recovery. We have established a Publix toll-free associate emergency information line which allows associates to call and obtain information about store closings, openings, and other information that impacts where and when they should report for work. This line also gives associates the ability to report their status, the status of their homes, and whether or not they are available to come to work, along with a phone number where they can be reached.
While we all know we should be prepared for emergencies, the ability to provide fundamental, basic needs to the communities we serve is essential. As part of our Business Recovery Plan, we have installed stationary and mobile generators at hurricane-prone store locations. These 500kw generators have automated turn-on sensors and are able to keep the store's air-conditioning, lighting, and refrigeration systems functioning.
Our customers depend on Publix to be open and operational directly following a disruption. We are constantly working to update and improve our preparedness plans for the many different aspects of our business that are impacted. We are proud of the steps we have taken to ensure that our stores are up and running as soon as conditions are safe after a disaster.
